Not getting into this too much but I don't think you can moan too much with the six agains against you. Like us during the Woolf era you push the ruck time to the limits, slowing players down, usually Farrell coming 3rd man in and definitely slow down the ruck. This isn't an anti-Wigan thing, as I've said we were guilty of it for a while (and still are to an extent) but I'd wager that most non-Wigan fans would agree.
I can live with that for sure. Faz was a joke on Saturday in truth and I can live with any opposition fan looking at our discipline and any tactical approach to slow a game down but it doesn't give any explanation to the flip side, which is my focus and that is that we've been given 9 penalties in 5 games (I have no stats for six agains but I'm pretty confident it would be a pretty low figure as well). This isn't just you btw but every opposition fan that has responded to these points has gone 'you deserve to be penalised', totally ignoring us talking about what we get, not what we give away. Yeah fair enough, I can't comment on that It's hard to argue with the stats Stu, but obviously I wouldn't expect oppo fans to argue that Wigan are being reffed unfairly when everyone knows we have all the Wigan refs in our back pocket (© Redvee 2025 and every other year) I'm not usually one for unduly criticising refs except in extreme and obvious circumstances but I've been leaving games this season totally baffled and frustrated by refereeing performances and I didn't know why. I'm always aware that all fans can be a bit one eyed and I was putting it down to that but it felt like something more. Seeing the stats NK has posted totally explains it. I'd like to think I'm pretty fair minded and I'm not one of those who gets stuck in to refs, think they deserve abuse etc and I know it's an extremely challenging position but the figures in black and white, both this season and last that I've looked at have just been startling. I think there are many factors at the back of them and it's creating a bit of a perfect storm. If the club aren't looking to have conversations with people about this, they wouldn't be doing their job and I'm sure they've been doing it. Like many things in life, those who shout loudest, tend to get what they want and I don't think we're great at that but guys like Peet and Radlinski seem the sort who want to do things with class and to give the referees the respect they deserve, by not ranting about it in public (some would call it crying). That will surely need to change if things carry on as they are. This narrative that Peet is Mother Teresa does make me laugh. He's a bit of a s**thouse on the sly (not saying that's especially wrong) but he's definitely got another side to him and strikes me as someone who isn't backward at coming forward. I saw the spat with Willie Peters that he ended up apologising for and I note that he had a pop at Newman after the game for patting Harry Smith's head conveniently forgetting Smith doing exactly the same to Welsby at the Brick a couple of years ago (not sure if Peet was coach then) I think if Peet felt you were hard done by he would make his feelings known without a doubt. Ironically he was annoyed with Peters for spending all day moaning at the 4th official (something the BBC commentary mentioned on a few occasions). If that and calling a total and utter tool like Newman out (I'm sure you agree he is) makes him a sh*thouse on the sly, so be it.

Maybe it is something to do with the no. of Wigan refs who've joined the senior panel over the last few years and even if it's just subconsciously they don't want to be thought of as favouring Wigan. I honestly don't think it's that big of an issue because the stats show we're the least penalised team in the league, if we were getting caned every week whilst receiving next to nothing then that would be a different matter.
The job requires them to be impartial in all games. If, for whatever reason, they feel they can't do that, it's an admission that they can't do the job, and so they should step down.

| We lost by two at Leeds with the pen count 5-1 in favour of the Rhinos and six agains 3-0 top the home team. That's 8 sets to 1 the referee decided to award Leeds. If there had been an even split I reckon Wigan would have won. Should the sets have been 8-1 in favour of Wigan we'd have won by 14+. I do admit that refs giving any away team 8 sets to 1 at Headingly is pure fantasy. 8-1 in favour of Leeds at Headingly though is reality

| Updated Leeds' penalty conceding run.
Leeds vs. Wakey - 4 pens conceded vs. Salford - 3 pens conceded vs. Cas - 2 pens conceded vs. Catalans - 5 pens conceded vs. Wigan - 1 pen conceded (5 given against us) vs. Warrington - 7 pens conceded vs. Salford - 7 pens conceded vs. Hudds - 6 pens conceded vs. Hull KR - 5 pens conceded
So on average Leeds concede almost 5 penalties a game, yet somehow against us were so disciplined that they only gave away 1 penalty.
An 80% improvement from the week before, and then the next 3 games they conceded 7, 7 and 6?
Someone make it make sense.

| 48 tackles busts for Wigan today and 6 clean breaks, verses 29 tackle busts and 3 clean breaks for Hull. Wigan made around 400 metres more in the match and won the game by 24 points.
Penalties received-
Hull 9
Wigan 4
The mystery continues.....
Praise da lord for the six agains though!

Had a look at the other teams in the top 5 now and they?ve received the following amount of penalties-
Saints 33 Leigh 30 HKR 29 Hull FC 24 Wigan 8
I?d love to know if there is some sort of technical reason why Wigan would have a quarter of Saints penalties and even only a third of Hull FC?s. Is it something to do with how we attack? Are we just too honest and not doing the Brodie Croft style humping of the ground from yesterday or the constant talking to the ref/throwing your arms up that Walmsley does. Are we as a fanbase too passive? The Leeds crowd were all over Smith yesterday but I very rarely hear the Brick like that.
On the face of it we?ve actually given away the least penalties with 16 but why are there so few penalties in our games in general? To be averaging less than 2 penalties received per game is absurd really and it?s hurting us. I really hope the club are on to this and asking questions as to what is going on because it can?t carry on.
Out of interest NK, where did you find the penalties received figure? Are you able to update them following this weekend?s matches.
