| Sam Tomkins has won the Albert Goldthorpe Rookie of the Year Medal at a ceremonial lunch hosted by League Express at Headingley Carnegie Stadium.
The medal, which is solid silver, is awarded to the Rookie (defined as a player who played ten or fewer first-team games before the start of the season) who is adjudged to have made the biggest impact on the game in the regular Super League season.
Sam, 20, made his Super League debut this season, playing 20 matches so far in the regular Super League season.
His award was presented by Steve and Donna Walker, the parents of Leon Walker, the Wakefield rookie who tragically died in a reserve-team game in Maesteg in March.
Sam also received a cheque for £500.
The Albert Goldthorpe Medal itself was won by Hull Kingston Rovers star Michael Dobson, who led his team to fourth place in the final Super League table, and played in all 27 of his side's Super League matches.
Ray French was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his contribution to Rugby League as a player, journalist, broadcaster, Chairman of the British Lions Association, and for his support of amateur and student rugby league.

All worthy winners especially Ray French, he has his knockers but the man lives every minute of his life devoted to rugby league.
Well done all.

| Well done to Sam!
I didn't know there was a Rookie medal.
A very well done too to Michael Dobson for winner of the Albert Goldthorpe medal. He has put in a very consistent season to have achieved the award. Though a HKR player many of us will never forget his massive contribution in saving us from relegation.
Congratulations to Ray French for his Lifetime achievement award. The hours he puts in for Rugby League are enormous and it is an award that is very well deserved.

Once recieved a call when i was at Uni in the North East, with a bloke with a stupid accent claiming to be Ray French stating he wanted to come up and do a report on one of our games, i told him to go forth and multiply thinking one of the lads was having a joke, he rang again and i responded the same way, third time he convinced me to my horror it really was the legend Ray French.I could not believe at his age he wanted to drive up to the North East in the middle of winter to watch a bunch of students have a kick about but sure enough he did, and contiues to do so. Legend.

| It's a good little competition that by the league express - worked on their match reporters giving a 1, 2, 3 for every game.
I think Dobson player of the year and Sam young player is a fair reflection although I'd give Brett Hodgson man of steel.
Same for Ray French. I think most people agree he went on a little too long on the TV (although he was never helped by having Jonathan Davies alongside him) but I still think he is a cracking radio commentator.

Which other players meet that criteria and could have been in the reckoning?
I can't think of anybody else.

Kyle Eastmond maybe although he's preformed nowhere near the level of Tomkins on a consistant basis.
Ainscough would be right up there aswell given the criteria even though he's only played half a year.
